DMI ministers in response to Isaiah 61:1, "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound."
The first portion of the Africa trip took us to new territory—Mombassa, a city on the coast of the Indian Ocean. This area is strongly influenced by Islam and we were definitely there to do a foundational work in the small church that hosted us. The spiritual opposition to the gospel is formidable there, and they were so grateful for the teaching and encouragement that we brought!
One of the highlights for me was when I returned to Nyahururu. A good friend, a pastor there, was there to meet us (my sister and I) when we arrived. However, he was terribly ill—he had contracted typhoid fever. He was very discouraged and suffering terribly. I knew in my spirit, that this was one of those “I’ve been sent here for such a time as this” occasions. We were able to break the attack of the enemy in his life, minister deliverance and healing, and he was instantly healed of the typhoid fever! John testified that God had given him a whole new start—reviving him spiritually, emotionally and physically. God is so good.
The team from the United States joined us for the remainder of the trip, and we saw the Lord move powerfully. Our first stop was the garbage dump where we brought food and drink to the homeless people living there.
Then we went to the Streams of Life Orphanage where we were met by some of the same children who used to live at the garbage dump. They were laughing and giggling, and tears came to my eyes when I heard them calling, “Deborah! Deborah!” We brought fruit, which is a rare treat for them.
God’s love for you is the same—He loves you so much! He says that when people reach out to you when you are feeling ignored or forgotten, it is the same as reaching out to Him. That’s how important you are to Him. That’s how much He values you. You can trust that kind of love completely!
