DMI ministers in response to Isaiah 61:1, "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound."
The Brazil/Paraguay trip turned out to be quite an amazing experience. I have so much to tell you, and yet I find it hard to describe. It reminds me of the disciples in the gospels. In several places, it says, “and they were all amazed.” That’s how I feel. I’m continually amazed to see the powerful evidence that God is present and active and ministering to people—meeting after meeting, time after time, and moment by moment. Each time I witness it, I am deeply amazed, because of the wonder of it.
I’ll give you the bottom line summary of the trip first. Over the course of three weeks, I ministered in nine churches, did one radio program, one television program, two leadership meetings, one women’s retreat, and one prophetic conference-- reaching a total of approximately 5,000 people in two nations. What a tremendous privilege it was!
One of the things that I wish you could have seen was the beautiful dance that was part of their worship. Their worship teams consist of musicians and dancers. The entire dance team is on the platform dancing unto the Lord for the entirety of the praise and worship time. It is exquisitely beautiful!
I remember asking for some serious prayer before I left, and it didn’t take long after I got there to realize why I felt such a need. The day I arrived, I learned that my contact person had enthusiastically booked me into some very large churches. He was so excited, and told me—through the interpreter, because he doesn’t speak English—that he had told the pastors that my ministry was just like that of Kenneth Hagin. Well then—there you have it. Nothing to do but soldier on—withstanding the pressure to be anyone other than who I am!
Most importantly, the Holy Spirit was faithful to His identity and moved in power to minister to the needs of hundreds of people at a time as they answered altar calls and came forward for prayer, healing, deliverance or any other kind of divine intervention! I’ve never seen altar calls like that in any other place I’ve been. It was truly amazing! One particular night my interpreter and I laid hands on nearly 1,000 people for individual prayer!
One night we drove up to a church to a large banner advertising the meeting. My interpreter was quick to read it to me: MIRACLE SERVICE WITH DEBORAH. She said, “I hope you’re ready, because they are expecting you to do miracles the whole time!” My thought was, “Oh, Lord! Raise up the intercessors!” It was becoming obvious that the signature challenge of this particular trip was pressure and intimidation. Again, the Holy Spirit was faithful and we saw miracles and healings, both emotional and physical.
One testimony was particularly heartwarming. A lady had been struggling against despair and depression. After crying out to the Lord she had a dream that a woman came to her and prayed for her and she was healed. She held on to the dream in faith for a month, at which time she came to the meeting and found that I was the woman she had seen in her dream! She came forward for prayer and was gloriously set free.
As the trip progressed the Lord confirmed to me that I had been sent there to bring a prophetic message specific to each individual church, much like the messages to the churches in the book of Revelation. One pastor was so excited when he told me that the very things that he and his staff had prayed about that week were the things I addressed in the message to that church. God is so faithful!
